Balloons outdoors can present some special challenges. Weather and sunlight affect the balloons, and bystanders feel freer to touch balloons when they are outdoors. Here are some steps I take to mitigate these challenges:
I use brands of balloons that are of higher quality, thicker walled, and fresher to help prevent pops.
Whenever possible, I use 11 inch latex balloons sized down to 5.5 inches instead of smaller balloons. This makes for a much more durable balloon outdoors.
I use steel frames instead of helium.
I use 60-pound concrete weights under columns and arches to prevent them from being blown over in the wind.
Even with the best precautions, things can go awry. Bystanders can be destructive. Local municipalities may have restrictions on outdoor balloons. No balloon art will stand up to extreme wind or hail. Customers must accept these risks and the resulting liabilities when choosing to display balloons outdoors.
